Tom Hardy Is Set to Play Don McCullin in a Movie Directed by Angelina Jolie

Powerful photography and history meet Hollywood in the latest news that war photographer Don McCullin’s life story will be adapted for the screen, with Angelina Jolie onboard to direct the movie.

Although McCullin is best known for his involvement and dedication to war photography, his autobiography, titled “Unreasonable Behaviour”, which was released in 1990, also carries a powerful message and insight from his experiences during various human conflicts. And, it is this memoir that has inspired Scottish playwright Gregory Burke to work on an adaption of McCullin’s life experiences. Burke is best known for having written for the 2014 historical thriller “’71”, which was based on violent clashes in 1970s Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Angelina Jolie has agreed to direct the film and has expressed that she is “humbled to have a chance to bring Don McCullin’s life to film,” pinpointing McCullin’s dedication to diving deep into witnessing and recording the truth as the source of inspiration, despite how painful it might be not just to observers but also to those experiencing it directly. Jolie’s previous work as a director has also been based around periods of modern conflicts, such as, “First They Killed My Father”, “Land of Blood and Honey”, and “Unbroken”.

English actor Tom Hardy is set to play McCullin in this biopic whose production company, Hardy Son & Baker, is also going to produce the movie alongside Working Title, a British film and television production company. The title and the release date of the film have not yet been confirmed.

Tom Hardy made CBE

Film star Tom Hardy has been made a CBE for services to drama by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.

The Mad Max and Venom actor is a friend of Princes William and Harry and was among the guests at Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle in May.

He was honoured by the Prince of Wales at a ceremony where author Ken Follett was also made a CBE and TV historian Lucy Worsley was appointed an OBE.

Businessman and philanthropist Lloyd Dorfman received a knighthood.

Hardy’s connections with royalty extend back to 2006, when he played Robert Dudley, Elizabeth I’s favourite, in TV’s The Virgin Queen.

It is also understood that he appeared with Princes William and Harry in a scene from Star Wars: The Last Jedi in which they all dressed as masked stormtroopers. The scene did not appear in the finished film.

The 41-year-old was nominated for an Oscar for his role in 2015’s The Revenant and has also starred in such films as Mad Max: Fury Road, Inception and The Dark Knight Rises.

Ken Follett, who has been honoured for his services to literature, is known for writing such historical novels as The Pillars of the Earth, World Without End and his best-selling Century trilogy.

“I’m off to Buckingham Palace today,” the 69-year-old author told his Twitter followers on Friday in a post showing him sporting a top hat and morning coat.

Sir Lloyd Dorfman, the founder of Travelex, is no stranger to the Prince of Wales, having been chairman of The Prince’s Trust since 2005.

The 66-year-old donated £10m to the National Theatre in 2010, resulting in one of its stages, formerly the Cottesloe, being renamed in his honour. Travelex also subsidised the venue’s cheap ticket scheme for 15 years.

Tom Hardy Says He’s ‘kind of had enough’ of acting

The star is set to appear in Marvel’s ‘Venom’ and the upcoming Al Capone movie ‘Fonzo’

Tom Hardy has said he’s “kind of had enough” of acting and wants to “go on with [his] life.”
The actor is set to appear in Marvel‘s Venom, which is due for release on October 5, and the forthcoming Al Capone movie, Fonzo.

Speaking to Esquire, Hardy discussed how turning 40 last year had changed his perspective on his career. “You’ve summited Everest,” he replied. “It’s a miracle that you’ve made it anywhere near the fucking mountain, let alone climbed it. Do you want to go all the way back and do it again? Or do you want to get off the mountain and go fucking find a beach?”

A lesson in how protective Tom Hardy is of his children

Tom Hardy is a man of mystery. Well, sort of. But while he is keen to keen his private life just that, you better bet when it comes to his children, he keeps that on lock down, as he explained to Esquire UK recently.

The 40-year-old action man has 10-year-old son with ex-girlfriend Rachael Speed and a two-year-old with his actress wife Charlotte Riley – and it’s been reported Charlotte is pregnant with the couple’s second child.

Pierce Brosnan Wants Tom Hardy To Be the Next James Bond

Next year, Daniel Craig will make his final appearance as 007 in the yet-untitled 25th James Bond film directed by Danny Boyle. While there have been a number of rumors about who will pick up the role, former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan has endorsed Tom Hardy to be the next 007.

“I think Tom Hardy could be a good Bond. I’d be happy to see him do it. You need an actor who can put a bit of wiggle into it—that’s what makes Bond,” he told the The Mail on Sunday’s Event magazine.

While it’s not clear what he means by “put a bit of wiggle into it” (perhaps that Hardy has a nice butt?), Brosnan has always been a fan of Craig as Bond.

“Daniel Craig has been an incredible Bond,” Brosnan said. “He’s very physical, he looks lethal. You genuinely believe this is someone who could kill a man.”

Yes, fans and critics alike have both enjoyed Craig’s time as Bond, but unfortunately for the actor it’s been an entirely miserable experience. Maybe Hardy would hopefully have a little more fun with it!

Tom Hardy’s Al Capone movie Fonzo adds Twin Peaks star Kyle MacLachlan and more

Matt Dillon and Linda Cardellini also sign up.

Tom Hardy’s upcoming Al Capone biopic Fonzo has added a whole load of new names, with Twin Peaks star Kyle MacLachlan leading the pack.

The movie, which will be directed by Fantastic Four’s Josh Trank, will focus on the notorious crime boss and his later years in prison where dementia plagues his mind.

MacLachlan has been cast as Capone’s doctor Karlock, according to The Hollywood Reporter, alongside Matt Dillon (Crash) as his closest friend Johnny.

Also joining the cast are Linda Cardellini (Freaks and Geeks) as the mobster’s long-suffering wife Mae, and Kathrine Narducci (Power), who plays sister Rosie.

This isn’t Hardy’s first brush with playing gangsters though, having previously taken on the role of the Kray twins in 2015’s Legend.

Meanwhile, the actor’s deleted scene from Star Wars: The Last Jedi was unveiled this week. Hardy played a Stormtrooper that gets a bit handsy with Finn (John Bodega).

The clip also sees him sport a bizarre accent as he intimidates Finn into believing that he has been caught out while under cover.

As for MacLachlan – he recently starred in the revival series of Twin Peaks, returning as Agent Dale Cooper, though whether there will be any more remains as unanswered as the series’ ending.

Fonzo, which is due to begin principal photography next month in New Orleans, doesn’t currently have a release date.

Tom Hardy and Chris Pine could be the leading men in Call of Duty movie if Sicario 2 director gets his way

The Call of Duty movie could finally be heading into production in the near future.

And it would seem it’s a fairly decent bet to say that Tom Hardy and Chris Pine will be sized up for roles in the film if Sicario 2 director Stefano Sollima gets his way.

Dropping what now could be a heavy hint as to who he’ll cast in the lead roles of the COD movie, should rumours regarding Activision Blizzard’s interest in him prove true, The Gomorrah director revealed that Tom, 40, and Chris, 37, are at the top of his list to work with.

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk in Milan at the launch of his short film for Campari, The Legend of Red Hand, the 51-year-old director expressed his admiration for the two star, admitting he ‘loved’ their work.

Speaking of Tom, Stefano said he was a huge fan of the British actor’s CV, saying: ‘I mean, I like almost everything [he’s been in]. I’m waiting for his Venom. Even in Mad Max, he was great.’

And it seems that his other favourite actor in Tinsel Town is none other than Chris Pine.

‘He’s tough, but he’s smart and he can have a sense of humour but he can [also] be in such a dramatic role,’ the director explained. ‘I like when you feel that an actor can play with different nuances and tone because this means they’re a good actor.’

Tom has previously starred in war epics Band of Brothers and Black Hawk Down, while he also is no stranger to taking on roles more closely tied to pop culture with Mad Max: Fury Road and The Dark Knight Rises being two of his biggest silver screen jaunts.

Likewise Chris isn’t green to playing the soldier, or at least the adventurer, as he boldly went where only William Shatner had been before when he headed up J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot.

Basically, it sounds as though this movie would be the perfect vehicle to help the director realise his ambition of working with the two stars
