The star is set to appear in Marvel’s ‘Venom’ and the upcoming Al Capone movie ‘Fonzo’
Tom Hardy has said he’s “kind of had enough” of acting and wants to “go on with [his] life.”
The actor is set to appear in Marvel‘s Venom, which is due for release on October 5, and the forthcoming Al Capone movie, Fonzo.
Speaking to Esquire, Hardy discussed how turning 40 last year had changed his perspective on his career. “You’ve summited Everest,” he replied. “It’s a miracle that you’ve made it anywhere near the fucking mountain, let alone climbed it. Do you want to go all the way back and do it again? Or do you want to get off the mountain and go fucking find a beach?”
He continued: “What is it that draws you to the craft? At this age, I don’t know anymore. I’ve kind of had enough. If I’m being brutally honest, I want to go on with my life.”
Despite that, Hardy doesn’t see himself leaving the film and television industry entirely just yet. “What I’d like to do is produce,” he said. “Write. Direct.” As the piece points out, with his production company Hardy Son & Baker, he is currently working on the second series of BBC period drama Taboo and is considering directing an adaptation of Once A Pilgrim – a thriller created by a veteran of the Parachute Regiment.
Meanwhile, the star also revealed he used his own mental health issues when playing Eddie Brock, a freelance photographer who turns into a nightmarish beast, in Venom.
“It’s like acting out mental illness in some aspects, of which I have a fair understanding, having had a certain amount of mental health problems of my own, which are relevant, being an addict. So I might as well fucking use it.”
The first image of Hardy as Al Capone was also released last week (August 2). The actor plays the American gangster in Fonzo, which focuses on the last year of Capone’s life.
