Tom Hardy is returning to Peaky Blinders for its third series.

Series creator Steven Knight has confirmed that the Mad Max: Fury Road star will be back as the imposing Alfie Solomons.

“Yes, Tom is coming back,” Knight told Deadline.

He also hinted that more big-name guest stars could sign up to appear in the next series, adding: “We have new big roles that are written and have enormous interest from really good people. We’re hoping to land some good names.

“The response from everyone and people in the business has been unbelievably good, so we’re in a good place for approaching people who wouldn’t normally do this sort of thing.”

The next series of Peaky Blinders will begin shooting on September 10 – with Knight again voicing his ambition to follow Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) til the eve of World War II.

“It’s a longshot, but the ambition is, I would love to end the final episode of the final series with the first air raid fire of the Second World War,” he explained.

“We’ve been going in two-year jumps [between series], so that would be about 10 series. We may have to start making bigger jumps to get to that point. But I’ll let the story lead [and do] what feels natural.”

We’re still waiting for Swedish-raised filmmaker Daniel Espinosa to make good on the promise of his 2010 thriller “Snabba Cash” (aka “Easy Money”). The movie launched the international career of Joel Kinnaman (2013’s “RoboCop”) and made Espinosa a much in-demand filmmaker for Hollywood studios —after juggling several offers, he directed “Safe,” starring Denzel Washington. But will Espinosa become of those acclaimed foreign filmmakers who devolve into the anonymous Hollywood hackwork (like, ahem, Baltasar Kormákur)? Maybe Espinosa will fare a little bit better with his upcoming film “Child 44.”

Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures has acquired the rights to the book “True American: Murder & Mercy in Texas” with Tom Hardy attached to star and Kathryn Bigelow on board to direct.

Pic is based on Anand Giridharadas book that tells the true story of Rais Uddin Bhuiyan, a Bangladesh Air Force officer who dreams of immigrating to America and working in technology. But days after 9/11, an avowed “American terrorist” named Mark Stroman, seeking revenge, walks into the Dallas minimart where Bhuiyan has found temporary work and shoots him, maiming and nearly killing him.

W.W. Norton & Company is publishing the book.

Hardy has received rave reviews for his one man show in the A24 film “Locke” and has a handful of films set to bow this year including the Fox Searchlight pic “The Drop” and the Summit crime drama “Child 44.” He is also set to star as Elton John in the biopic “Rocket Man” and the New Regency pic “Splinter Cell.”

Bigelow last directed the Oscar nominated “Zero Dark Thirty” for Sony and Annapurna. She is repped by CAA and Hardy is repped by CAA and United Agents.
