Tom Hardy to Host U.K. TV Doc on Wildlife Poaching in Africa

The “Dark Knight Rises” star is also executive producing the two-hour “Poaching Wars With Tom Hardy” for ITV.

Tom Hardy will present a documentary series on wholesale wildlife poaching in Africa for U.K. commercial broadcasting network ITV.

Hardy is front and center for the documentary, which currently has the working title Poaching Wars With Tom Hardy, and will present the two 60-minute episodes. The project was reportedly Hardy’s own idea.

The show is a co-production between Burning Bright Productions and Hardy’s production banner, Hardy, Son and Baker. The Dark Knight Rises star is also taking an executive producer role.

Poaching Wars With Tom Hardy is commissioned by ITV’s factual team.

According to ITV, after Hardy became aware of the damage being inflicted in Africa by the poaching industry, he made a personal commitment to travel to South Africa, Botswana and Tanzania and uncover why poaching has reached crisis levels across Africa. Cameroon, Chad, Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of the Congo are seeing large-scale elephant slaughter.

On his trek across the continent, Hardy meets those affected and involved on all sides of the illegal industry, including the farmers who have lost livestock to poachers and key figures from organizations fighting back on the ground and in government.

“The story of the impact of wildlife poaching in Africa is one that is important to tell, now more than ever,” said ITV controller of factual Jo Clinton-Davis. ” Tom Hardy’s palpable concern and commitment to shedding light on what is happening and what the answers might be allow him to bring this reality home in a way that we believe will resonate powerfully with our audience.”

Dean Baker, executive producer of the film for Hardy, Son and Baker, added: “Tom’s goal is to bring the senseless slaughter of endangered wildlife in Africa to the attention of the masses. This documentary is the first step of that process.”

Poaching Wars With Tom Hardy is executive produced by Hardy, Baker and Clive Tulloh. The film is produced and directed by Ewen Thompson.

Paddy Considine and Fares Fares Join Tom Hardy Thriller ‘Child 44’

Noomi Rapace and Gary Oldman also star in Summit’s Daniel Espinosa directed Soviet-era movie.

Paddy Considine and Fares Fares (“Zero Dark Thirty”) are in negotiations to join the international ensemble of Summit Entertainment’s Soviet-era thriller “Child 44,” TheWrap has learned.

The duo will be joining Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace and Gary Oldman in the movie, which Daniel Espinosa (“Safe House”) is directing from a script by Richard Price, who adapted the bestselling novel by Tom Rob Smith.

“The Killing” star Joel Kinnaman was previously reported to be in negotiations as well.

Set during the 1950s, “Child 44” follows a member of the Soviet police (Hardy) who finds himself the target of his own government’s suspicions as he investigates a brutal serial killer targeting children.

Fares will play one of Hardy’s trusted allies, while Considine’s role is being kept under wraps.

Summit, which is owned by Lionsgate, partnered with Worldview Entertainment to co-finance and executive produce the movie earlier this year.

Ridley Scott and Michael Schaefer will produce for Scott Free Productions along with Greg Shapiro. Lionsgate execs Erik Feig and Jim Miller will oversee the project for the studio.

While “Child 44” is set in Russia, its cast will be primarily British (Hardy, Oldman, Considine) and Swedish (Rapace, Kinnaman, Fares).

Considine, who co-starred in “The Bourne Ultimatum” and “Cinderella Man” for Universal, will soon be seen in the studio’s upcoming comedy “The World’s End,” which reunites him with his “Hot Fuzz” co-stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, as well as director Edgar Wright.

Fares, who previously worked with Kinnaman on “Safe House” and the “Snabba Cash” films, is best known for his key supporting role in Kathryn Bigelow’s “Zero Dark Thirty.”

Considine is repped by CAA and Troika, while Fares is repped by Don Buchwald & Associates and Magnolia Entertainment.
