According to Jack de Aguilar of Contact Music, it seems Tom has dropped out of ‘The Outsider’
It’s not been confirmed why Tom Hardy has dropped out yet…
Tom Hardy may be ready to take on the role of Elton John in the upcoming 2015 movie Rocketman, but his schedule has just become a little lighter now that he’s no longer involved in The Outsider.Director Takashi Miike is also out.
Hardy has backed out of the project, according to Twitch, while Worldview Entertainment – the financial backers of the film – must also search out a new director to helm the film now that Miike has dropped out, too.
It’s a big blow; the director of Ichi the Killer and 13 Assassins working alongside a star with the cache of Hardy was considering a dream combination. The script comes from relative newcomer, who worked on the remake for Logans Run.
The film follows a former American G.I. who becomes part of the infamous Yakuza criminal organization in Japan shortly after World War II, but that out-of-place G.I. will no longer be played by Hardy.Perhaps Tom is freeing up his calendar to prepare for his role as Sir Elton John. He’s already revealed that he’s ‘singing all the time’ in preparation for Rocketman. The musical biopic will follow John’s life from child prodigy on the piano, through his rebellious teenage years and his eventual rise to the apex of the music industry as the outlandishly dressed superstar we know him as today.
John, who has spent time with Hardy, says the pair don’t really look alike, but that the similarities in their personality will yield an honest, accurate performance from the Dark Knight actor.“I’ve spent a lot of time with Tom already and we get on like a house on fire,” he said. “‘We are very much alike – you wouldn’t think so and certainly not physically. I wanted a serious actor and I’m so thrilled he is doing it.” He added: “I didn’t want it to be a flippant film. It’s based on fact but there is a lot of fiction in it because I don’t want just the usual biopic and my life has been so surreal.” (Metro)
